Why can't we all be skinny?

Fill in the blank.
You have gorgeous eyes!
Wow, you are in such great shape!
You look so cute!
You have great legs, arms, fingers, hair, blah blah blabbiddy biddy!  Why do we do this?!?  Its like picking up a cookie and praising the flour for its deliciousness! NO!  Its delicious because the baker made it that way.  Let’s be serious, some people were born with more checks in the “good looking” column and our culture has not only ENTIRELY over emphasized the importance of the “looks” column, but it has also ignored the fact that it is just easier for some people than it is others.
I see it every day.  Sally Jo Bob sits there with her friends, giggling, happy and tiny as can be gobbling down the world’s largest ice cream sundae.  Sally Jo Bob tosses her hair back and, with a twinkle in her eye, says “can you believe I like ate ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner today?”  Down the row from Sally you have Sandy who is afraid to take one bite of an ice cream sundae because she has struggled with weight for, what feels like, her whole life.  Sandy hangs her head down low, “Why can’t I be like Sally.”  Its just not fair, we need to start calling a spade a spade.
We were all born different… we ALL realize this.  Then why do we CONTINUALLY praise ONLY someone who is in shape, small in the waist, toned, batting eye lashes, tanned, and with a rock hard bottom?  Yes, I realize it can take a lot of hard work to look like that but what it also takes is being born with a physical body type that is already predisposed to looking like that.
I went into a clean, public restroom the other day and when I looked over these words were staring me in the face:

Preach on bathroom stall!  I think loving your body is a step in the right direction.  I think even better is loving your body for more than just how it looks, love it for its functionality as well.  For me, I have decided that there are a few things about me that I appreciate accolades for (take notes hubby!) the rest I could do without.
1.  Eyes.  I have decided that the saying is true “Eyes are a window to the soul.”  So much of a person’s life is expressed through their eyes and, what’s even better, no matter what you eat, drink, say or do those eyes are yours and only yours forever.
2.  Hair.  To me hair is fun and “healthily changeable.”  I can dye it, cut it, grow it, and make it smell however I want it to!  Hair submits to your every demand, almost like head art.  Sure it goes through its ups and downs, and mostly everyone thinks they want someone else’s hair…but still your hair is yours and yours alone.
3.  Words.  Okay I realize I am cheating with this one, I know its not technically a physical attribute, but at the end of the day if there is anything about me that is praiseworthy I pray it is what I do with my words.  Words have the ability to impact, change, grow, and love in a way that nothing else about me does.  Nothing is more powerful about a person than their words.
Skinny is so uncontrollable.  Some of us are.  Some of us just aren’t.  It doesn’t even feel good to me anymore when someone comments on my size, because I know that I have done nothing to look this way.  In high school its all I ever wanted.  Someone to notice me, notice my shape, size, and body and say “Wow!”  Because of this I spent my life trying to figure out ways to get those words.    Now, it honestly makes me sad when someone notices, cares, or compliments my shape or size…those items about me are so fluctuating.  One day they are up and one day they are down.  Not only that, but it takes enormous amounts of self control to alter your body in a HEALTHY way.  Most of us take the unhealthy way out…what is so complimentary about that?
So here is to eyes!  May they capture your heart from the very first breath of life!  May everything else in between be put in its rightful place.

Ecclesiastes 3:10-12
“I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.”
